Essentials checklist: What to bring to an in-person event

By Share to Buy

Your essentials checklist for a stress-free day

You’ve signed up, cleared your diary, and you’re ready to explore the world of affordable homeownership in person – but what should you actually bring with you to a housing event, such as our home shows or roadshows?

While our Share to Buy Live events are designed to be as accessible and informative as possible, arriving prepared can help you get the most out of your day (and avoid that mid-afternoon slump!).

Here’s your go-to essentials checklist for a smooth, successful and comfortable visit:

Notepad and pen (or a notes app)

There’s going to be a lot of information – whether it’s schemes, developments, next steps or financial advice. Jotting things down means you’ll walk away with useful notes to refer back to once the event is over.

List of questions

Not sure how Shared Ownership or Rent to Buy works? Want to ask a housing provider about eligibility? Curious about how much deposit you’ll need? Having your top questions ready will help you get focused answers from exhibitors, mortgage brokers and legal experts.

Your event ticket or confirmation email

Our home-buying events are all completely free to attend, but you will need to register in advance, and we’ll ask to see your booking confirmation or digital ticket on arrival. Save it to your phone or print it out – whichever you prefer.

A water bottle and snacks

While some venues will have an on-site café or shop, this isn’t always the case. We would recommend bringing your own water – especially as some of our venues can get warm during busy periods. A small snack can also help keep your energy up if you’re spending a few hours browsing.

Dress smart and comfortable

Think light layers: you’ll want to stay cool indoors but have a jacket or cardigan on hand in case the venue is air-conditioned or the weather turns on your way home. And don’t forget that comfortable shoes are a must – you’ll be doing plenty of walking, especially at larger venues.

Bag or folder for brochures and freebies

You’ll likely leave with guides, leaflets, brochures – and maybe even a few exclusive freebies or offers. Bring a bag or a folder to keep everything tidy and in one place.

Fully charged phone

As well as navigating to and from the venue, your phone will be handy for taking photos of brochures, saving contact info, or registering interest with providers. A portable charger is a great extra, especially if you’re planning to stay for a few hours.

An open mind

You may come in looking for one thing and leave with new ideas or inspiration! Be open to learning about different schemes, locations or tenures you hadn’t considered yet.

Ready to attend?

From expert advice and financial insights to brand-new property listings, in-person events can be a goldmine of opportunity for buyers at every stage. By arriving prepared, you can focus on getting the answers you need, making meaningful connections, and taking one big step closer to homeownership.
